WWE WrestleMania 37 Night 1 Results:
Vince McMahon came out to thank the WWE Universe of fans. The wrestlers were all on the ramp with McMahon. It’s so great to (relatively safely) have a live crowd again at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa!
-Legit 40 minute rain delay because Florida. We were subjected to an awkward panel of Kayla Braxton, Booker T, JBL, Peter Rosenberg, and Jerry “The King” Lawler. JBL says Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks isn’t about Black history. I think you should sit out discussions regarding Black people, John.
WrestleMania 37 hosts Titus O’Neil and Hulk Hogan The Racist came out to rile up the crowd. O’Neil looked so uncomfortable around Hogan. Who could blame him?
Our announcers are Byron Saxton, Michael Cole, and Samoa Joe. Tom Phillips is reportedly out due to COVID-19 per WrestleTalk.
WWE Championship: Bobby Lashley (c) (with MVP) defeated Drew McIntyre by technical submission (Hurt Lock Full Nelson) after an awkward verbal distraction from MVP. Poor Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin, who miss out on a WrestleMania moment and payday because WWE just had to breakup the Hurt Business… Very good opener, but a nauseating amount of camera cuts.
Backstage interview with WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode aka the Dirty Dawgs, who put over retaining their titles on Friday Night SmackDown.
Bayley is backstage trying to get on WrestleMania because God forbid one of the women who carried WWE during a spot doesn’t get a spot on the biggest show of the year. O’Neil, Hogan, and the NWO (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman) blew her off. Please get Hogan off my TV.
Tag Team Turmoil Match: Natalya and Tamina won by last eliminating The Riott Squad (Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott). Order of Eliminations: Billie Kay and Carmella eliminated Naomi and Lana. Riott Squad eliminated Kay and Carmella. Riott Squad eliminated Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke. Natalya and Tamina eliminated Riott Squad. This match was a disaster with the Riott Squad barely keeping everything together. Poor Mandy slipped on the way to the ring because WWE’s crew couldn’t think of drying the ramp before the match.
Natalya Neidhart and Tamina Snuka vs. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on WrestleMania 37 Night 2 on Sunday.
Cesaro defeated Seth Rollins. Fantastic match. Cesaro pinned Rollins clean after a UFO spin, Cesaro swing, and Gotch Neutralizer piledriver to win his first WrestleMania singles match.
AJ Styles and Omos defeated The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) (c) to win the WWE Raw Tag Team Titles. Omos looked decent for the limited time he was in the ring. They won when Styles hit a Phenomenal Forearm off of Omos’ shoulders that looked badass.
We got a WWE 2K22 teaser trailer with Rey Mysterio and Cesaro that already looks a hundred times before than WWE 2K20.
Steel Cage Match: Braun Strowman defeated Shane McMahon. Jerry Lawler is on commentary. Elias and the openly racist Jackson Ryker who is somehow still employed attacked Strowman outside to start to match. Strowman looks in incredible shape. McMahon hit a Coast to Coast dropkick from the top of the cage because he’s a crazy 51-year-old. Elias and the Racist try to interfere, but no avail. McMahon takes a nasty bump off the cage back into the ring. McMahon magically finds a tool box and uses it on Strowman. Strowman drags McMahon to the top of the cage and viciously throws him down on the mat. Strowman hits the running powerslam and pins McMahon to win the match. Good for what it was. Shane McMahon remains insane and in an awkward midlife crisis.
Bayley gets a WrestleMania appearance after all, interrupting Cole before the WWE Hall of Fame 2020 class presentation.
WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2020 Presentation: Bella Twins, Warrior Award winner Titus ONeil, New World Order, Jushin Thunder Liger, John Bradshaw Layfield, the family of Davey Boy Smith aka the British Bulldog
WWE WrestleMania 38 trailer for Dallas with Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Bad Bunny and Damian Priest defeated The Miz and John Morrison. Booker T is the special guest commentator. Miz and Morrison perform their hilariously bad Reggaeton track with a bunch of Easter bunnies in the ring. Bruh. Bad Bunny enters in a truck. Crowd is firmly behind Bad Bunny. This overdelivered beyond belief. Bad Bunny sold for like 10 minutes better than most young talent in NXT and AEW. Notable spots included a dive and a Canadian/Puerto Rican Destroyer on Morrison outside! Priest hoisted Miz on his shoulders as Bad Bunny hit a flying crossbody for the win.
WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Main Event: Bianca Belair defeated Sasha Banks (c) to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The first time two Black women headline WrestleMania. Incredible. Belair and Banks holding back tears as the crowd sounds pumped. Banks playing the heel here. and rocking blue hair with green highlights. Notable highlights: Banks hits a suicide dive on Belair on the outside, but Belair rolls back to her feet after catching Banks and throws her back in the ring! Belair misses the moonsault. Banks catches her by the hair and hits multiple knee strikes for a two count. Announcers pushing the narrative of Belair being a rookie against the best of the best. Match highlights Banks’ quickness and veteran savviness vs. Belairs athleticism and power. Belair hit a delayed slingshot suplex on Banks that’d make Tully Blanchard proud. Banks uses Belair’s hair to her advantage — until she eats a clothesline, shoulder tackles, and a running shooting star press!
Belair goes for the 450 Splash, but Banks gets her knees up. Banks goes for a hurricarana, but Belair hits a delayed sitout powerbomb for the near fall. Banks hits a tornado DDT for the two count. Banks hits a splash for a two count. A frustrated Banks slams Belair into the steps and attempts the Banks Statement back in the ring. Banks wraps Belair’s braid around her head/neck in the Banks Statement! Belair doing a great job selling. Belair rolls through for the rope break. Banks goes to the top rope. Belair tries to stop her, but gets knocked down. Banks went for the stomp, but missed. Banks runs at Belair, but she moves. Belair hits the 450 Splash, but only gets a two count. Belair goes for the KOD, but Banks escapes. Belair hits the hair whip and KOD for the clean pin! Cole royally screws up the final call saying Banks kicked out before immediately correcting himself.
Awkward call by Cole aside, incredible match and moment. Banks and Belair nailed it and then some. Massive thumbs up.
