Latest Pro Wrestling News:

WWE SmackDown Results – June 12, 2020 – WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL live in front of paid hostages NXT wrestlers. Commentators: Michael Cole and Corey Graves.

Sheamus forced Jeff Hardy to take a drug test in the ring before their match at WWE Backlash could be made “official.” This was as terrible as it sounds. Sheamus and Hardy made a bunch of piss puns. Sheamus said just say NO to drugs. Hardy eventually, allegedly, peed a freakin’ liter into a cup as the drug testers covered him up for privacy. Hardy then made a piss reference and threw the “urine” in Sheamus’ face. Apparently, that’s not a firable offense because highly contagious pandemics don’t exist in Vince McMahon’s WWE Universe. This was no good!

Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro defeated WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day – Big E and Kofi Kingston in a non-title match. Nakamura got the pinning combination on Kingston after getting his knees up for Kingston’s top rope splash. Kingston and Big E kneeled and raised their fists before the match in solidarity for Black Live Matter.

AJ Styles defeated Daniel Bryan in the WWE Intercontinental Championship Tournament Finals to win the vacant IC Title. Awesome match that went through FOUR commercial breaks and got plenty of time to shine. I would put this slightly below their TLC 2018 classic. This match would have been even more of an absolute banger in front of real fans. Styles got the clean win with the Phenomenal Forearm. In the post-match interview with Renee Young, Styles put himself over as the great WWE champion the company has ever seen. Go out of your way to watch this match! Good luck topping that, Edge and Randy Orton!

We get a recap of the comedy feud for the WWE Universal Championship featuring The Miz and John Morrison sliming Braun Strowman like it’s 1998 Nickelodeon. Who finds this funny besides Vince McMahon?

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bayley Dos Straps and Sasha Banks celebrated their title win. This would’ve been better on Monday Night Raw instead of them losing a random triple threat tag team match to Asuka and Unbeatable Charlotte Flair. The IIconics – Billie Kay and Peyton Royce interrupted on the titantron to hype up their match at WWE Backlash. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross sneak up from behind and send Bayley and Banks packing. All three teams face off Sunday night at Backlash for the tag titles.

The winner of the Backlash match will defend the titles against Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox on WWE NXT. And the Original Bro Matthew Riddle debuts next week on Friday Night SmackDown!

WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman and Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Mr. MITB Otis with Mandy Rose) defeated The Miz, John Morrison, and Dolph Ziggler. Mid-match, Otis went backstage to attack King Corbin for hitting on Mandy Rose. Otis pinned Ziggler with the Caterpillar. This does not feel like a main event program whatsoever.

Once again, the good on SmackDown is REALLY good (Styles vs. Bryan) and the bad is horrific (Sheamus vs. Hardy). Good luck with that new promotion, Bruce Prichard!

WWE Backlash 2020 takes place Sunday, June 14 at the empty WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL and airs live on WWE Network.

WWE is hyping Edge vs. Orton of all matches as potentially the GREATEST MATCH OF ALL TIME. This could certainly be great given who is involved, but GREATEST MATCH EVER? In front of NO FANS who are a key element of wrestling? Strange marketing…
