UFC 262 took place Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the sold out Toyota Center in Houston, TX and aired live on ESPN+ PPV.
UFC 262 Results and Highlights – Main Card on ESPN+ PPV:
Vacant Lightweight Championship: Charles Oliveira def. Michael Chandler via TKO (punches) in Round 2, :19 to win the UFC title. In his 28th UFC fight after 11 years with the promotion, Oliveira finally received a title shot and can now call himself UFC champion. What an incredible journey. Former Bellator MMA lightweight champion Michael Chander dominated Round 1 after getting taken down by Oliveira, but was quickly finished in Round 2 thanks to Do Bronx’s stunning comeback. Oliveira likely faces the winner of Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier 3 at UFC 264.
$75,000 performance bonuses – Fight of the Night: Edson Barboza vs. Shane Burgos, Performance of the Night: Charles Oliveira and Christos Giagos
Lightweights: Beneil Dariush def. Tony Ferguson via unanimous decision (30–27 across the board). Ferguson got the biggest ovation of the night, but like his last fight with Oliveira, was completely dominated here. Kudos to Dariush on a tremendous performance. Ferguson has lost three straight and at 37, could be knocking the door on sad UFC exit. Dariush got the biggest win of his career and then proceeded to cut a promo on Marxism and Elon Musk. Talk about a missed opportunity to call out the Oliveira, Chandler, McGregor, etc…
Catchweight (137lbs): Rogério Bontorin def. Matt Schnell Decision via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 29–28)
Women’s Flyweights: Katlyn Chookagian def. Viviane Araújo via unanimous decision (29–28, 29–28, 30–27)
Featherweights: Edson Barboza def. Shane Burgos via knockout (punches) – Round 3, 1:16. Burgos had the most delayed reaction to a finishing punch you’ll ever see, but is luckily OK. Well, as OK as you can be being KO’ed by Barboza. Great opening fight on PPV.
UFC 262 Prelims Results and Highlights:
Middleweights: André Muniz def. Ronaldo Souza via technical submission (armbar) – Round 1, 3:59. Poor Jacare’s arm audibly snapped just weeks after Chris Weidman’s freak leg injury. The former Strikeforce champion has now lost his last six of eight fights and four straight. At 41, this could be the end.
Featherweights: Lando Vannata def. Mike Grundy via split decision (29–28, 27–30, 30–27)
Middleweights: Jordan Wright def. Jamie Pickett via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 1:04
Women’s Flyweights: Andrea Lee def. Antonina Shevchenko via submission (triangle armbar) – Round 2, 4:52
Women’s Flyweights: Priscila Cachoeira def. Gina Mazany via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 4:51
Featherweights: Tucker Lutz def. Kevin Aguilar via unanimous decision (30–27, 29–28, 29–28)
