How you can help Black Lives Matter:

The Washington Football Team confirms the organization will indeed be going by that name for the foreseeable future, per a statement released Thursday.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – On July 3rd we announced a thorough review of the team’s name in light of events in the country and feedback from our community. As the process has continued internally, we want to keep our players, alumni, fans, community and sponsors apprised of key developments.

For updated brand clarity and consistency purposes, we will call ourselves the “Washington Football Team” pending adoption of our new name. The Redskins name and logo will officially be retired by the start of the 2020 season. We encourage fans, media and all other parties to use “Washington Football Team” immediately.

In addition, we are rolling out an aesthetic that reflects the direction of the franchise as we progress toward a new name and design scheme.

We’ll see if a new name, logo, and overall branding will be rolled out by the start of the 2020 season. EA Sports better get those updates ready for Madden.

Meanwhile, owner Daniel Snyder claims there is an internal investigation underway — in response to at least 15 women accusing the Washington Football Team of fostering a toxic work environment of sexual harassment. You know, the work environment Snyder oversees as the hands-on owner of the Washington Football Team. Nice of the judge, jury, and executioner NFL to not intervene.

The Washington Football Team had all that time to come up with a new name and couldn’t do it before training camp. Hopefully, their “investigation” is timelier and more effective, but the bar is low.

I’ll leave you with LeBron James’ tweet on the “new” name as it sums up most people’s thoughts.
