TSC News hosts Fred Richani, Allan Wu, and Scott Anderson recap the WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 results and do live commentary of the Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens HIAC main event in this HIAC retro review that originally aired Oct. 8, 2017!
WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 Results – October 8, 2017 – Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI
Hell in a Cell Kickoff: Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin def. The Hype Bros – Zack Ryder aka Matt Cardona and Mojo Rawley
Hell in a Cell Match: The Usos def. The New Day w/ Kofi Kingston to become new WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Excellent match and the best HIAC in years.
Randy Orton def. Rusev aka Miro via RKO Outta No Where!
Baron Corbin def. AJ Styles and Tye Dillinger (Shawn Spears) in a triple threat match to become the new WWE United States Champion. Corbin stole the pin on Dillinger after Styles hit a Phenomenal Forearm.
Charlotte Flair def. WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Natalya via disqualification after Natalya used a steel chair to take out Flair’s knee. Natalya retains the SmackDown Women’s Championship in an incredibly lame finish.
WWE Championship: Jinder Mahal (c) w/ Singh Bros. def. Shinsuke Nakamura. The Singh Bros. were thrown out, but Nakamura had Mahal beat while ref was distracted by them. Mahal had worked on Nakamura’s knee earlier in the match. When Nakamura went for his second Kinshasha on Mahal, the champ moved out of the way and hit the Khallas for more or less a clean pin. I get that there’s a tour in India coming up in December, but Nakamura needed this win and could’ve dropped the title to Mahal in November. Your top two SD Live singles champions are Mahal and Corbin. Fun times.
Bobby Roode aka Robert Roode def. Dolph Ziggler. Ironically, now they’re tag team partners.
Hell in a Cell Match: Kevin Owens def. Shane McMahon with the help of Sami Zayn! Good match that went way too long (it ended a half hour after the usual PPV runtime of three hours). Notable spots include McMahon missing a Shooting Star Press, both men brawling at the top of the cell, KO getting knocked off one of the walls through the table, and the big one: Zayn moving KO out of the way as McMahon crashed through the table from the top of the cell.
HIAC was a tale of two PPVs. The two HIAC matches and the triple threat alone should make this a thumbs up show, but everything in between was sub par at best.
