The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a glowing masterpiece that takes everything that was great about Breath of the Wild and improves upon it in every way.

The world of Hyrule and beyond is even more vast and open-ended, the gameplay is more fluid and engaging with new mechanics being introduced well into progression, and the story continues the spectacular drama of BOTW.

The biggest aspect that makes Tears of the Kingdom so special is its sense of freedom. You’re free to explore the world however you want, in any order you want and build structures through the game’s Zonai devices however you want.

The game doesn’t hold you hand, but it also doesn’t overwhelm you either. Take your time to learn the abilities throughout TOTK including Ultrahand, Ascend (teleport through surfaces), Recall (rewind time), Fuse (fuse weapons, bows, shields), and Autobuild (build various machines/objects with Zonai devices and other items).

Story-wise, it’s a classic Zelda tale of good versus evil, but it’s more complex and nuanced than previous games in the series, especially if you never played BOTW and aren’t familiar with Ganon. It’s an Upheaval from previous Zelda stories to say the least. Pun intended for TOTK players…

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a masterpiece that is sure to please fans of the series and newcomers alike. It’s a must-play for anyone who loves open-world adventure games on their Nintendo Switch. Without a doubt a 10/10.

• The soundtrack is beautiful and atmospheric, perfectly setting the tone for the game. Minus Link’s awkward breathing when climbing anything.
• The visuals are stunning especially for the Nintendo Switch’s hardware.

Now if only Nintendo was able (or wanted to) take Pokémon to another level like The Legend of Zelda series. A gamer can dream!
